Evening Surrender

Scripture

"Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, Yahweh, God of truth." — Psalm 31:5 (WEB)

Teaching

Jesus quoted this psalm on the cross as His final words: "Into your hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46). If these words were sufficient for the Son of God in His darkest hour, they are sufficient for you tonight. Surrender is not weakness — it is the ultimate act of trust. When you commend your spirit into God's hands, you are saying: "I trust You with everything — my life, my loved ones, my future, my sleep, my tomorrow." Tonight, pray these words slowly and deliberately. Let them become your evening prayer, not just during this fast, but for the rest of your life.

What does it mean to "commend your spirit" to God each evening? What are you surrendering to Him tonight?

Into Your hands, I commend my spirit, Lord. I surrender everything to You tonight. My worries, my hopes, my body, my soul — all are Yours. I trust You completely. Amen.
