The Finished Work

Scripture

"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." — John 19:30 (WEB)

Teaching

Before you sleep tonight, remember: it is finished. The work of salvation is complete. The price for your sin has been paid in full. The victory over death, hell, and the grave has been won. There is nothing more to add. You do not need to earn God's love through this fast. You do not need to prove your worth through spiritual performance. Christ has done it all. Your fast is a response to His love, not a requirement for it. Rest in the finished work of Jesus tonight. Nothing more is required of you. Simply receive, rest, and be grateful.

Reflection

In what ways do you try to "earn" God's love through performance? How does "It is finished" free you from that?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that it is finished. I rest in Your completed work tonight. I do not need to strive or earn. I simply receive Your love and grace. It is well with my soul. Amen.

It is finished! The work of Christ is complete. I rest in His victory. Nothing can add to or take away from what Jesus has done.
