Day 23 · Morning Devotional
Overcoming Temptation
Scripture
"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." — 1 Corinthians 10:13 (WEB)
Teaching
Temptation is universal — every believer faces it. Jesus Himself was tempted. But God promises that no temptation will be beyond what you can bear, and He always provides a way of escape.
The key to overcoming temptation is recognising it early and running to God instead of rationalising or entertaining it. James 4:7 says: "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." But notice what comes before that: "Submit yourselves to God." Submission first, then resistance.
During fasting, you may face specific temptations — to break the fast, to give in to discouragement, or to entertain negative thoughts. Know that God has already prepared your escape route. Look for it. Take it.
Reflection
What temptations are you most susceptible to during this season? What is God's "way of escape" for each one?
Prayer
Father, thank You that no temptation is too great for me because You are with me. Help me to recognise temptation early and run to You. Provide the way of escape and give me the strength to take it. Amen.
✦ Declaration
I am an overcomer. No temptation is greater than the power of God within me. He always provides a way of escape, and I will take it.
