Day 4 · Morning Devotional
The Word as Daily Bread
Scripture
"But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth.'"" — Matthew 4:4 (WEB)
Teaching
When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, the Lord's weapon was not miraculous power or angelic intervention — it was the Word of God. Three times He was tempted, and three times He responded: "It is written."
God's Word is our spiritual nourishment. Just as our bodies weaken without food, our spirits grow faint without Scripture. The Bible is not merely a book of inspiration — it is living, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).
During fasting, we abstain from physical food to feast on spiritual food. Let this be a season where the Word of God comes alive in a new way. Read it, meditate on it, memorise it, and speak it over your life.
Reflection
How much time do you spend feeding on God's Word compared to other inputs? What would it look like to make Scripture your primary daily nourishment?
Prayer
Lord, feed me with Your Word today. Open my eyes to see wonderful things in Scripture. Let Your Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I hunger for more of You. Amen.
✦ Declaration
I do not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from God's mouth. His Word is my strength and sustenance.
