Day 9 · Morning Devotional
Guarding Your Heart
Scripture
"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life." — Proverbs 4:23 (WEB)
Teaching
The heart is the centre of everything — our thoughts, emotions, desires, and decisions all flow from it. That is why Solomon wrote that we must guard it with all diligence. What we allow into our hearts determines what comes out of our lives.
During a fast, the heart is particularly tender and receptive. This is both an opportunity and a vulnerability. It is an opportunity because God's Word can penetrate deeply during this season. It is a vulnerability because discouragement, temptation, and negative thoughts also seek entry.
Guard your heart by being intentional about what you consume — not just food, but media, conversations, and thoughts. Fill your heart with God's Word, worship, and positive fellowship.
Reflection
What are you allowing into your heart through media, conversations, or thought patterns? What needs to change to better guard it?
Prayer
Father, help me to guard my heart during this fast. Filter what enters through my eyes, ears, and mind. Let Your Word be the gatekeeper of my heart. Fill me with thoughts that honour You. Amen.
✦ Declaration
I guard my heart with all diligence. Out of it flows the wellspring of life. I choose to fill my heart with God's Word, worship, and truth.
